WE ARE / MUSIC WORTH LISTENING TO.

Miike Snow

Miike Snow (named after Japanese film director Takashi Miike) are a Swedish band, who formed in 2007. The band consists of Andrew Wyatt, Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg (Bloodshy & Avant). Their first album, self-titled, was recorded in Stockholm and released early on May 12th, 2009, by Downtown Records. Winnberg and Carlsson, as Bloodshy & Avant, co-wrote and produced Britney Spears’s Grammy-winning 2004 hit, Toxic.

The album is full of electronic, new-wave, low-key, piano-laden melancholy…Mike don’t even bother.

Wilco – You and I featuring Feist

Feist and Jeff Tweedy

Wilco (The Album) includes the first duet to be featured on a Wilco album, “You and I”, which was recorded with Canadian indie folk singer Feist. The band met Feist at the 50th Grammy Awards and found they had a mutual appreciation for each others’ music.

I’m not really in love with this song but I felt I should post this. They really don’t showcase her voice…what does indie mean? Feist is on Interscope.

Plasticities by Andrew Bird

In support of his album Noble Beast, Andrew Bird will be playing at Babeville in Buffalo, NY on October 21, 2009 along with special guest St. Vincent. The track Anonanimal was featured as an earlier post on Sparkups. This track, was off the album Armchair Apocrypha, another solid Bird album. Enjoy and support the show if you can.

Davy by Coconut Records

I have to admit I slept on this album for a long time (thanks to Brand for the smart phone action)…I love the first Coconut Records album, Nighttiming. I don’t think this will live up to that album but Microphone has been stuck in my head all day.

Bloc Party – One More Chance

New j from Bloc Party. Have they sold out? I cant quite figure this one out yet. Although the Tiesto remix makes me want to ask Brand to dig out his old glow sticks.
