Basement Jaxx – My Turn featuring Lightspeed Champion
Let it be known that I have been obsessed with Mr. Devonte Hynes aka Lightspeed Champion for a good bit of time now. His first album, Falling Off The Lavender Bridge, was an absolute gem. Here is a Brand spankin Knew video for a collabo he did with the omnipresent Basement Jaxx (Where’s your head at?).
Camera Obscura — “The Sweetest Thing”
Halloween is coming….all over your face! I still think along side The Shout Out Louds, Camera Obscura may be one of the most underrated bands out there!
Tegan and Sara – Hell Behind the Scenes
This song is growing on me. Maybe because I have unconditional love for them. I love their bangs but I dislike their pointless video.
The Rifles – The Great Escape
The Rifles are an English indie rock band from Chingford, London. Brand has probably heard of them before in his English escapades.
The band consists of Joel Stoker (vocals, guitar), Lucus Crowther (guitar, vocals), Rob Pyne (bass guitar, vocals), and Grant Marsh (drums, percussion). Session musician Dean Mumford (Keys) usually joins the band on tour.
Great Escape is the second studio album from The Rifles, which was released on January 26, 2009 after the initial release date of October 13 was delayed.[1]
The album delay was somewhat attributed to the length of time it took to record. The Rifles used two different producers, Dave McCracken and Stan “Jan” Kybert, as well as recording the album in three different locations.
The Rifles used Dave Davies’ (The Kinks) studio in Crouch End, called Konk Studios, Dan Hawkins’ (The Darkness) studio Leeders Farm, and “The Pool” in Miloco Studios to record the album.[2]
The album was released in North America on September 15, 2009 through Nettwerk Music Group.
The song “Science in Violence” was featured in an ad for MTV2’s Dew Tour 2009.
Phoenix – Rome remix by Neighbors with Devendra Banhart
This is a nice departure from all of the progressive (read forgettable) remixes of Lizstomania.
Arkells – The Ballad of Hugo Chavez
I decided to listen to the 102.1 The Edge today as I haven’t downloaded todays Howard Stern Show yet and in between Nirvana and Audioslave they played this song. Like I have mentioned before, one of the huge positives of living in WNY was that Canadian radio spills over into our airwaves and that the Canadian government forces stations to play Canadian content. Arkells are from the mighty Hamilton Ontario, home of Hess Village, The Phoenix Coyotes and played out hand gestures.
Thanks for your one good song out of five Edge! They’re currently playing Don’t Walk Away Eileen!!!!
The XX – Heart Skipped a Beat
More from The Xx. good
