Amy Millan – Bury This
Off of Amy’s newest release. You may know her as one half of the lead vocals of the band Stars or one of the female holy trinity of indie rock. That of course being Feist, Emily Haines of Metric and herself as the female sidekicks of the might Broken Social Scene. She has also released two albums and with her beautiful voice anything she does is worth listening.
Maclean’s magazine’s list of the best Canadian albums released between 2000 and 2009
Arcade Fire’s Funeral has topped Maclean’s magazine’s list of the best Canadian albums released between 2000 and 2009.
Funeral bested Broken Social Scene’s You Forgot It In People, which took the #2 spot on the list. Interestingly, Black Mountain’s 2005 self-titled album took #3 instead of the band’s Polaris Music Prize short-listed In The Future. The New Pornographers’ Mass Romantic came in at #4, while Wolf Parade’s Apologies To The Queen Mary rounded out the top five.
The list mostly includes Canadian albums released in the first half of the decade. Feist’s The Reminder is the only album on the list that was released after 2005.
Here is Maclean’s magazine’s list of the decade’s best albums:
1. Arcade Fire — Funeral
2. Broken Social Scene — You Forgot It In People
3. Black Mountain — Black Mountain
4. The New Pornographers — Mass Romantic
5. Wolf Parade — Apologies To The Queen Mary
6. Sarah Harmer — You Were Here
7. Tangiers — Hot New Spirits
8. Sam Roberts — The Inhuman Condition EP
9. Constantines — Shine A Light
10. Feist — The Reminder
George Washington Rap
Alright, I may be behind the times a little on this one, but my brother showed this video to me this past weekend. I never knew George Washington was such a bad ass. Pretty funny video. Enjoy.
Puzzles by The Mary Onettes
This is the official video for Puzzles by The Mary Onettes. The song is off of the band’s sophomore album, Islands. According to the band and wiki, the album had to be re-recorded from scratch after the hard drive containing all of the music was stolen from the car of lead singer Philip Ekström, “…I basically lost every song I’ve ever recorded with The Mary Onettes. My hard drive with all my music was stolen in my car one fine afternoon in Stockholm, the very same fine afternoon we came home from our US tour, the very same day I was feeling thrilled to come home and start the process of finishing our new album. Of course I had made a backup copy on my computer at home. But for some reason a power failure in the building made that hard drive collapse too. Unbelievable. I was speechless for days.”

Dead Man’s Bones
Dead Man’s Bones is a collaboration between actors Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields. The album features backup vocals from the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir – a music education facility co-founded by Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Pa Pa Power – one of my favorite tracks and incredibly hard to get out of your head.

Cold War Kids – Audience Of One
CWK is another KOLish band where I believe they are on the cusp of being on top 40 radio. Let’s hope not because I truly enjoy them and their perfect use of the piano. Also, Nathan Willett has the best “blue eyed soul” voice in indie rock and of course they’re one of Delo’s favorites.
El Pirro Del Mar – Change of Heart
El Perro del Mar (literaly “The Dog from the Sea” in Spanish) is a musical project that was founded in December 2003 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The sole member of El Perro del Mar, Sarah Assbring, initially started as an MP3/CD-R artist and released her first songs through Hybris Records. Her music could be described as melancholic lo-fi twee pop.
