Cold War Kids – Audience Of One
CWK is another KOLish band where I believe they are on the cusp of being on top 40 radio. Let’s hope not because I truly enjoy them and their perfect use of the piano. Also, Nathan Willett has the best “blue eyed soul” voice in indie rock and of course they’re one of Delo’s favorites.

El Pirro Del Mar – Change of Heart
El Perro del Mar (literaly “The Dog from the Sea” in Spanish) is a musical project that was founded in December 2003 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The sole member of El Perro del Mar, Sarah Assbring, initially started as an MP3/CD-R artist and released her first songs through Hybris Records. Her music could be described as melancholic lo-fi twee pop.
Men – Big Fucker
‘Men think modern life is rubbish. This Norwich-based three-piece write songs that document the prosaic everyday horrors of the white-collar wage slave. Songs like “Re: Your Re-Branding”, “Workin’ in the Office”, and “Texting the Internet” are so true-to-life, you can practically hear the low hum of the fluorescent lights and the incessant beep of the jammed printer. While most of Men’s output deals in latent frustrations, “Big Fucker” is their giant middle finger extended in the direction of the corner office– singling out the boss with the pointless meeting agendas, the “pretender… dressed for success in the boardroom.” Probably no accident that the keyboard tone is eerily reminiscent of one of Patrick Bateman’s favorites: Huey Lewis and the News. Though here the slickness is played for laughs, a signifier of the profit motive that drives esoteric jargon-speak and ridiculous motivational speeches. Yet despite Men’s attempts to sugarcoat with sardonic humor, there’s an unavoidably sad truth at the heart of their corporate tale: toil away in obscurity or risk becoming that fucking guy.
Isbells – As Long As It Takes
After 15 years of playing, making and recording music with several rockbands (soon, ellroy,…) Gaëtan Vandewoude felt the time was right to start creating his very own songs. Mostly writing & recording during nighttime, in a shabby old stable, this resulted in a collection of introspective yet observing songs, inspired by his immediate surroundings. Somewhere in that proces a band was formed with Naima Joris, Bart Borremans and Gianni Marzo, allowing each one of them to give their own colour & contribution to the music. Zealrecords came to notice Isbells and got them on board. So, Isbells now presents their debut album.

I just wish this guy had any idea what he was talking about. I can just see him in a suit reading off a prepared script. You would think a giant radio outfit such as NPR could hire someone with some street cred. Finders fee goes to Dobby aka the youngest old guy in the world!
