Amy Millan – Bury This

Off of Amy’s newest release. You may know her as one half of the lead vocals of the band Stars or one of the female holy trinity of indie rock. That of course being Feist, Emily Haines of Metric and herself as the female sidekicks of the might Broken Social Scene. She has also released two albums and with her beautiful voice anything she does is worth listening.

Broken Social Scene – Harbourfront 2009

bss

On July 11th Broken Social Scene were due to play their famous almost yearly Toronto Island show, unfortunately due to a Toronto work strike they had to cancel.  As BSS always seems to do, they got lemons and made champagne.  To keep their strong fan base happy they decided on a free show at the Harbourfront stage.  It is already being remembered as one of the greatest shows they have ever put on.  As it became a makeshift This Is Your Life  the crowd got as crazy as ever for their hometown band.

More after the jump including a fan shot mash up of Kevin Drew’s Safety Bricks and Feist’s I Feel It All…they’re dating btw!

This Book is Broken

This Book Is Broken is a lively oral history of Broken Social Scene, the Toronto cult indie-rock band that doubles as a collective, cottage industry, and self-described beautiful mess. Writer Stuart Berman has pieced together the band’s story through interviews with all 18 members, as well as their Toronto peers, international allies, and childhood heroes. Exclusive photos, gig posters, and artwork — most of it provided by band members and associates
